Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician (Relief) - Shrewsbury, MA

As a per‑diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician, you will be part of a team that thrives on the front lines of emergency veterinary care where every second counts. You will handle a wide range of cases, from minor to complex emergencies, collaborating with our doctors and team to deliver gold‑standard, emotionally intelligent care. Your day will include triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical‑care nursing while serving as a steady, compassionate presence for pet parents in their most stressful moments.

About

VEG

In 2014, VEG was born with a mission to help people and their pets when they need it most. We challenged the status quo, fixed everything that was wrong with the ER experience, and have since expanded rapidly. Our hospitals are open 24/7, 365 days a year, and we create a better emergency experience not only for people and their pets, but also for everyone who works here—our VEGgies!

We offer an open‑concept environment, immersive customer‑focused experience, unparalleled opportunities for learning and mentorship, and a culture that values each individual’s contribution.

The Job

In this role you will handle emergency cases of every kind—including exotics—supporting owners and staff with empathy and technical skill. You will perform CPR, administer complex medication protocols, manage diagnostics and imaging, and care for patients in both routine and high‑pressure scenarios.

What You’ll Do
  • Treat every patient and person like they matter—keeping families together and standing by them through tests, treatments, and everything in between.
  • Jump into action, delivering nursing care, treatments, and emotional support—from first triage to discharge.
  • Manage medication, monitoring, and advanced therapeutics—from IVs and CRIs to blood transfusions and beyond.
  • Communicate as a teammate and think like a leader, shaping plans and keeping care flowing.
  • Perform CPR as a trained RECOVER professional (our staff has the highest density of RECOVER CPR instructors).
  • Handle diagnostics and imaging, sample collection, and tube placement.
  • Administer anesthesia, even for the most fragile patients.
  • Utilize advanced techniques—including central lines, endoscopy, ultrasounds, and more.
What You Need
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA‑accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state where the VEG practice is located. VTS in ECC, internal medicine, or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus and may receive enhanced compensation.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role, with preference for emergency or specialty medicine experience.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with practice‑management software and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication and calm under pressure; ability to support colleagues and assist pet parents.
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
  • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, work on the floor, and lift up to 25 kg alone (up to 40 kg with assistance).
  • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or required basis based on hospital needs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment with diverse personalities.
Who You Are
  • Empathetic and people‑centric, supporting both colleagues and pet parents.
  • Humble—admitting mistakes, sharing credit, and lifting the team’s accomplishments.
  • Committed to ownership, responsible for outcomes, and focused on long‑term, impactful results.
  • Curious—asking insightful questions and continuously seeking learning opportunities.
How We Invest in You
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Flexible work schedules to support life outside of work.
  • Generous employee referral program.
  • Comfy scrubs, VEG swag, and stocked fridge for breaks.
DEI

At VEG, diversity is not just a word—it’s a strength that fuels innovation and kindness. We are devoted to creating an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse communities we serve, ensuring equitable opportunities for growth, inclusive decision‑making, and a culture where everyone’s authentic self is valued.
