Geography ECT – want a permanent September 2026 post in a ‘Good’ Shrewsbury secondary where you can complete your ECT with proper induction support and clear guidance?

This Geography ECT role gives you the structure, mentoring and reduced timetable you actually need to become a confident, consistent classroom teacher. You’ll join a supportive Humanities team and build strong practice across KS3 and KS4.

Key Focus: ECT induction support and guidance – complete your ECT

The Role
  • Teach Geography across KS3 and KS4 with a clear, well-sequenced curriculum.
  • Plan lessons that build knowledge, skills and exam confidence.
  • Mark efficiently and use assessment to target gaps quickly.
  • Create calm routines and consistent expectations that support learning.
  • Work closely with your mentor, HOD and wider Humanities team to develop fast.
ECT Induction Support
  • A funded ECT induction programme across two years, with a named induction tutor and regular check-ins to keep you on track.
  • Reduced timetable (10% in Year 1 and 5% in Year
    2) so you get protected time for planning, CPD, and observation.
  • Weekly mentoring with an experienced teacher, focused on your subject/phase, behaviour routines, and workload shortcuts that actually work.
  • A clear training and evidence plan mapped to the Early Career Framework, with bite-size targets and support if you hit a wobble.
  • Regular lesson observations and feedback (supportive, not “gotcha”), plus chances to watch strong colleagues and steal their best practice guilt-free.
The Candidate
  • A Geography specialist with a related degree (Geography, Human Geography, Environmental Science, Geology or similar).
  • Holds QTS (or due to achieve QTS by September 2026).
  • Wants a permanent Geography ECT post with strong mentoring and clear expectations.
  • Confident communicator who can build positive relationships quickly.
Requirements
  • Degree level qualification (2:2 or above) in a relevant subject.
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Willingness to follow school policies and engage fully with ECT training and evidence.
