About The Role
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic MTU Technician/Driver to join us on a casual basis, supporting the delivery of our Mobile Training Unit (MTU) across Shropshire and the West Midlands. This flexible role involves the safe transportation, set‑up, operation, and presentation of the MTU at a variety of locations, including schools, employer premises, and community venues.
Working as part of our employer engagement and outreach activities, you will help deliver engaging demonstrations and interactive learning experiences that showcase skills, training opportunities, and career pathways to students, employers, and other stakeholders. As an ambassador for the College, you will contribute to raising awareness of our provision and supporting skills development across the region.
The successful candidate will ensure the MTU is maintained and presented to a high standard, operates safely and effectively, and provides a welcoming and engaging environment for learners and visitors. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role, is confident working independently, and is able to adapt to different locations and audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Safely drive and manoeuvre the MTU to a variety of locations across the region
- Plan and manage travel routes, ensuring timely arrival at events
- Assess site suitability, including access, space, and ground conditions for safe set‑up
- Set up and dismantle the MTU at each location, ensuring it is fully operational
- Connect and operate all onboard systems, equipment, and technology
- Manage the internal layout to ensure an engaging and safe learning environment
- Deliver engaging demonstrations and interactive sessions for students and visitors
- Support curriculum teams and employers by showcasing training equipment and career pathways
- Adapt delivery to suit different audiences (e.g. school pupils, apprentices, employers)
- Represent the College professionally at external venues and events
- Work closely with employer engagement teams to support partnership activity
- Ensure all activities within the MTU comply with health and safety regulations
- Carry out risk assessments and ensure safe operation of equipment
- Maintain records of visits, usage, and engagement activity
- Experience of driving larger vehicles
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage and present to groups of learners and stakeholders
- Basic IT skills (operating systems, equipment, digital tools)
- Strong organisation skills and ability to work independently
- Flexible approach to working hours and locations
- Practical and solution‑orientated approach
- Ability to adapt delivery style to difference audiences
- Full UK Driving License
