We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and committed Secondary Cover Supervisor to join one of our welcoming schools within an established and successful multi-academy trust across Telford and Shropshire
.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is confident leading learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, managing classrooms effectively and ensuring students continue to make progress when their usual teacher is absent.

You will be responsible for delivering pre-prepared lessons and curriculum activities across a range of secondary subjects
, maintaining continuity of learning and creating a calm, purposeful environment where students are able to remain focused and engaged.

The Role

As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons and curriculum materials across a range of secondary subjects and year groups.
  • Supervise classes across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your approach to different ages, abilities and learning needs.
  • Ensure students have access to planned learning and complete work to a high standard in the absence of their usual teacher.
  • Provide clear instructions and confidently communicate lesson objectives, expectations and learning activities
    .
  • Maintain strong classroom management and behaviour standards
    , dealing confidently and appropriately with challenging behaviour.
  • Establish a positive, respectful and purposeful learning environment.
  • Keep students engaged and on task throughout lessons.
  • Support students with their learning, encouraging independence while providing appropriate guidance where required.
  • Follow lesson plans, curriculum resources and school policies effectively.
  • Ensure continuity of learning and minimise disruption when teaching staff are absent.
  • Monitor student progress, engagement and behaviour during lessons and provide useful feedback to teaching staff.
  • Use effective questioning and classroom strategies to support students in accessing the planned curriculum.
  • Build positive professional relationships with students, teachers and wider school staff.
  • Contribute to the wider culture, expectations and ethos of the school.
About You

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills
    .
  • Confidence working with students across the secondary age range
    .
  • The ability to deliver and support learning across a broad secondary curriculum
    .
  • A calm, consistent and authoritative approach to managing a classroom.
  • The ability to give clear instructions and maintain high expectations.
  • Confidence responding to different classroom situations and student needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation, reliability and the ability to use initiative.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students to achieve their potential.
  • A strong understanding of the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Instructor, Tutor or within a secondary school environment would be advantageous.

We are also keen to hear from candidates with strong transferable skills who have experience working with young people and are looking to develop a career within secondary education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
