To work as a Psychologist for Shrewsbury Central East Community Mental Health Team, travelling as required within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, providing clinical services directly face to face and remotely. To liaise with other services as above.

Main duties of the job

(a) To provide a specialist Clinical Psychology service within the Shrewsbury Central East CMHT. To work with clients remotely or face‑to‑face alone, in local NHS settings or other care environments, or at their home as necessary. Within this to be able to communicate highly complex information effectively in highly emotive situations and overcome psychological resistances to potentially threatening issues. To be responsible for conducting psychological interviews, deriving information from self‑report measures, rating scales, psychometrics (where necessary), direct and indirect structured observations and semi‑structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care, interpreting complex data and giving feedback effectively and with sensitivity.

To be skilled in risk assessment and management. These demands will incorporate frequent intense concentration often in emotionally demanding or unpredictable environments. The post holder will be expected to maintain high professional levels of clinical judgement and application of complex skills at all times.

(b) To provide expert psychological assessment and reports, both written and verbal, to referrers of people with a wide range of psychological problems, in accordance with codes of professional ethics.

Person Specification Experience
  • Years experience in Community Mental Health Settings for complex cases
  • Experience outside of current JD
Qualifications
  • It is a condition of employment that the post‑holder is registered with the Health Professions Council
  • Post‑graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent) including two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Considerable experience of working with people with complex psychological trauma and systemic working
