We are delighted to offer a Band 7‑8a development post in our Liaison Mental Health Team as part of our exciting redevelopment of psychology in the Urgent Care Pathway. The successful applicant will work alongside a psychologically minded team of nurses, medics and allied health professionals across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, based at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.
In this role you will work directly and indirectly with service users presenting in the acute hospital with primary or concurrent mental health difficulties. Responsibilities include assessment, formulation and brief intervention work with individuals and their systems, consultation, reflective practice, staff well‑being, team formulation and training. You will maintain close links with other psychology colleagues within the urgent care pathway and clinical health specialties.
MPFT will offer a welcome bonus of 10 % of first‑year salary—50 % on commencement and 50 % following 12 months of employment.
Main duties of the job- Provide a specialist clinical psychology service to adults, families and carers within the urgent care service, at the team base, other care environments or at clients’ homes.
- Communicate complex information effectively in highly emotive situations, overcoming psychological resistances to potentially threatening issues.
- Conduct psychological interviews and use self‑report measures, rating scales, psychometrics, structured observations and semi‑structured interviews to interpret complex data and give feedback sensitively.
- Exercise skilled risk assessment and management, maintaining high professional levels of clinical judgement at all times.
- After assessment, deliver expert formulation and psychological interventions to service users with a range of mental health problems.
- Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological intervention and/or management of a client’s psychological difficulties, based on an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods of proven efficacy across the full range of case settings.

Person specification- Relevant experience in a clinical setting
- HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist
- Post registration training
- Relevant experience in an NHS setting
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and BPS (ACP)
- Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
