Payroll HR Officer

Location:

Stafford Park, Telford

Salary: £37,000 - £47,550 per annum DOE

Hours:

Monday to Friday, 39.5 hours per week

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

The Opportunity

An established manufacturing business in Telford is looking for an experienced Payroll and HR Officer to join its team.

Working closely with the HR Manager, you will take responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing alongside varied HR administration duties. This is a key role ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliant, accurate HR records.

Duties & Responsibilities Payroll
  • Process weekly and monthly payrolls for hourly paid and shift-based employees.
  • Collect and input overtime, shift premiums, bonuses and timesheet information.
  • Process starters, leavers, pay changes and contract updates.
  • Calculate SSP, SMP, SPP and holiday pay, including irregular and part-year hours.
  • Submit RTI information to HMRC.
  • Administer PAYE, National Insurance, pension auto-enrolment and student loans.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and year-end processes, including P60s.
  • Support P11D reporting.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries.
HR Administration
  • Maintain accurate employee records across the HR and payroll systems.
  • Prepare contracts, variation letters and onboarding documentation.
  • Complete right-to-work checks.
  • Monitor absence and holiday information, flagging trigger points to management.
  • Support employee relations administration, meeting note-taking and annual pay reviews.
  • Ensure processes comply with UK employment law, National Minimum Wage requirements and UK GDPR.
  • Support internal, external and customer audits.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience processing end-to-end UK payroll.
  • Experience calculating statutory payments and submitting RTI information.
  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, workplace pensions and holiday pay rules.
  • Experience using payroll software.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables.
  • High levels of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet fixed payroll deadlines.
  • A discreet and trustworthy approach to confidential employee information.
  • GCSEs in Mathematics and English, or equivalent.

Experience with in manufacturing, food production or another shift-based environment would be advantageous. Knowledge of UK employment law and a CIPP payroll or CIPD Level 3 qualification, or current study towards one, would also be desirable.
