Sister/ Charge Nurse - Acute Medical Unit

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse to support the Ward Managers and nursing staff within the Acute Medicine Unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, which includes an Acute Assessment Unit, Enhanced Care, and Acute Medical Unit. This 12‑month secondment covers maternity leave and requires extensive post‑registration experience.

The successful candidate will be an experienced RGN, capable of leading and supervising staff, managing the department efficiently, ensuring appropriate care for patients, maintaining staffing levels, and optimising resources.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide care for patients and ensure they receive the appropriate treatment.
  • Support and guide staff to perform their duties effectively.
  • Manage the ward or department in the manager’s absence.
  • Promote teamwork and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and staff to maintain clarity of care plans.
  • Provide training for new staff and uphold safe, up‑to‑date care standards.
Person Specification Professional /Technical Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or relevant qualification in the area of speciality.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Extensive post‑registration experience in the relevant speciality or equivalent.
  • High level of clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating, managing, and leading a team on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Experience in a preceptor/assessor and supervisor role.
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Involvement in nursing audit and research.
  • Awareness and understanding of policy and practice relevant to speciality.
