Staff Nurse - Deputy Ward Manager
An opportunity has arisen on Willow ward within our Specialist Low Secure Forensic Service for a Staff nurse based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Willow ward is a 12 bedded male rehab unit.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self‑motivated individual to work as a staff nurse as part of the nursing team and managerial team. The post holder will be professional, open‑minded and work well as part of a team.
Due to the nature of the unit, successful candidates will be confidential, provide person‑centred support and be able to care for someone in a non‑judgemental way.
Tasks will include administering medication, aiding service users’ recovery, which involves working closely with service users on individualised risk reduction work. It will also involve leadership and supporting the ward manager to run an effective team on Willow ward, including supervision, sickness reviews, roster support, incident reviews and supporting the MDT.
As Willow ward is a forensic ward, the post holder will require a good understanding of the three different types of security (physical, relational and procedural) to ensure the safety of service users, staff and visitors. Willow ward follows the model of least restrictive practice.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work within a close team of other staff nurses and healthcare support workers on the ward to ensure safe running of the ward and patient‑centred care at all times. The post holder will have opportunity to work closely with service users as a key nurse and contribute to the wider multi‑disciplinary team, and will be required to document accurately and in a timely fashion.
Due to the nature of forensic mental health working, the post holder will be offered both managerial and clinical supervision and regular support from the team.
This is an opportunity for the post holder to work within a specialist team including a variety of disciplines with a wide range of knowledge and expertise.
Assessing risk is a huge part of being a forensic mental health nurse in all elements of the role such as: pre‑leave risk assessments, up to completing FACE and HCR‑20 risk assessments.
Staff nurses are required to work a regular rotation of night shifts, long days, alternative weekend working and working bank holidays – including Christmas and New Year.
