About the Role

Shropshire Council is seeking experienced and committed Social Workers / Senior Social Workers to join our Children's Services teams. We currently have two exciting opportunities available within our Children Looked After (CLA) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) teams.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people while working within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of children and young people within the Children Looked After Service.
Maintain personal performance and professional development with the support of your Team Manager.
Undertake comprehensive assessments informed by direct work with children, young people, and families.
Progress children's care plans and pathway plans, ensuring access to the right services at the right time.
Complete statutory visits to children placed at home, in foster care, and within residential settings in accordance with relevant CLA requirements.
Coordinate and chair a range of meetings, including care planning, placement stability, risk management, Personal Education Plans and review meetings.
Provide children, young people, and families with advice, guidance, and support to help resolve issues and improve outcomes.
Undertake court-related work, including revocation of care orders, Special Guardianship Orders and placement order applications where required
Participate in the team duty rota.
Maintain accurate and timely case recordings and documentation in line with council policies and statutory requirements.
Work collaboratively with parents, carers, guardians, education providers, health professionals, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

Skills/Experience

Qualified Social Worker
Social Work England registration.
Previous experience working within Children's Services, ideally within CLA and/or UASC teams.
Strong assessment, care planning, and safeguarding experience.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. As this role is eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, applicants are required to declare any cautions and convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.
