Description:

Wilson Health's Emergency Department is a 20-bed ED unit with 14 cardiac-monitored beds. The ED has received national recognition for exceptionally quick treatment release times for patients.

Job Summary

The Emergency Department Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)/Patient Care Technician (PCT) prepares and compiles records in the nursing unit of a hospital facility and provides essential patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the computer entry of patient information/registration and physician orders to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist with the coordination of activities of the unit and ensure the necessary supplies are available to provide patient care.
  • Ensure open and timely communication with the patient, their significant others, and team members to ensure the occurrence of therapeutic interventions.
  • Under the direction of the RN/LPN, assist in meeting the physical and emotional needs of the patient on the assigned unit, which includes young–middle aged adults and geriatric patients.
  • Under the direction of the RN/LPN, carry out assigned treatments and procedures.
  • Provide care based on ethical concepts, respect for life, dignity, human worth, and the individuality of human beings.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully completed an approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program; or three to six months of related hospital experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support.
