Education required:
Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Bioengineer or equivalent.
Other requirements:
Knowledge of immunological principles and techniques and a strong interest in immunology and vaccine development.
Hands-on experience with flow cytometry is a plus. Perform flow cytometry experiments, including sample preparation, instrument setup, data acquisition, and analysis.
Familiarity with flow cytometry analysis software (e.g., Flow Jo, OMIQ) is a plus.
Good computer skills including Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software
Familiarity with statistical analysis and design of experiments is beneficial.

What will you do?
The Cellular Immunology Lab is part of the Immunology Function in the Bacterial Scientific Area in Siena, GSK.
The laboratory is primarily focused on the characterization of immune responses to vaccine candidates and pathogens using both murine models and human samples. Key activities include the development multi-omics based assay to characterize human and murine cell mediated immune response and the establishment of in vitro human models to assess and predict vaccine reactogenicity and immunogenicity.
The intern will support the day-to-day activities of the immunology team, contributing to the following tasks:
Preparation and processing of organs
Preparation, processing, and cryopreservation of human PBMC samples for immunological and functional analyses.
Perform flow cytometry experiments, including sample preparation, antibody staining, instrument setup, data acquisition.
Data analysis and interpretation. Data presentation.
Non-technical: ability to follow standard operating procedures and to work with the team to ensure the maintenance of equipment and reagents in compliance with GSK and EHS requirements, development of problem-solving skills.
What will you learn?
GSK vaccines main goal is to develop innovative vaccines to protect people from serious disease. As part of GSK Bacterial Scientific Area, the laboratory of Immunology is focused on the characterization of the immune response to pathogens and vaccine candidate, both at preclinical and early clinical stages.
The intern will be part of a highly diversified and multi-disciplinary team, including senior scientist and scientist as well as PhD and post-doc student, contributing not only to project support but also to scientific innovation.
Within this scientific environment, the intern will develop expertise in flow cytometry techniques, including immune cell phenotyping, data acquisition, and multiparametric data analysis, while gaining exposure to a broad range of immunological protocols. The intern will learn how to analyze and interpret results combining protection and immune readouts.
The intern will also have the opportunity to present during lab meetings and project meetings, improving presentation skills.
