Radio Frequency (RF) Test Engineer

The Radio Frequency (RF) Test Engineer will support the testing of vendor provided developmental and production hardware and software. This role requires a deep understanding of RF principles, test methodologies, and the ability to work with advanced test equipment and emerging technologies. The engineer will perform engineering‑based functions ensuring the combined RF test lab successfully executes standards conformance and interoperability certification testing.
The RF Lab testing functional areas include High Frequency, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Satellite Communications, and Very High Frequency/UHF Line of Sight. This position is 100% on‑site in a government facility.
- Evaluate and modify existing test plans and procedures to determine if existing procedures are sufficient for a waveform test technician to execute. Investigate new ways of testing requirements to increase efficiency or accuracy.
- Develop new test plans and procedures.
- Attend working group meetings for new and existing standards.
- Execute test equipment setup. Perform functionality checks on equipment. Set up and configure equipment for new and existing capabilities using waveform‑specific test kits made up of all test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment necessary to test a terminal’s military standard compliance.
- Provide engineering assistance to the test team technicians before, during, and after test execution.
- Recommend equipment, facility, or capability for upgrade, replacement, or discontinuation associated with the annual lab modernization effort.
- Develop test scripts, programs, and procedures to automate testing and increase lab efficiency.
- Provide recommendations on candidate subtests for reevaluation following a comprehensive review of vendor‑provided documentation noting RF terminal software and hardware changes that have been previously assessed/certified.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
- 5+ years of experience in RF testing and validation.
- Active Secret security clearance on the hire date with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance. Current TS/SCI is desired.
- Strong understanding of RF principles and test methodologies.
- Proficiency with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging RF systems and components.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proactive and self‑motivated with a passion for continuous improvement.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, schematics, and block schematics.
- Knowledge of automated test scripts and software tools.
- Knowledge of RF test equipment such as scopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to handle large, complex workloads, effectively coordinate multiple resources, and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluation methods and techniques.
- Ability to handle controversial situations with tact and diplomacy.
