The Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse – Junior Level provides direct, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill adult patients in a hospital ICU setting. This role is ideal for early-career critical care nurses with 1–2 years of experience who want to strengthen assessment, ventilator, and hemodynamic skills in a collaborative ICU team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients, including continuous monitoring, timely interventions, and frequent reassessment.
  • Perform comprehensive and focused assessments, monitor vital signs and hemodynamic parameters, and recognize early signs of deterioration.
  • Administer medications, titrate IV drips as ordered, and manage IV therapy safely and accurately.
  • Assist with or manage ventilator care in collaboration with respiratory therapy, including monitoring settings, alarms, and patient response.
  • Support ICU procedures by preparing equipment, assisting physicians or intensivists, and monitoring patients during bedside interventions.
  • Maintain detailed, timely documentation in the EMR, including assessments, interventions, responses, and care plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other team members to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
  • Participate in emergency responses (e.g., codes, rapid responses), following ACLS protocols and unit guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Current Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license, or compact license with Arizona eligibility.
  • 1–2 years of RN experience; prior ICU or high-acuity acute care experience strongly preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications; PALS preferred per patient population and facility policy.
  • Foundational critical care skills including patient assessment, IV therapy, and use of common ICU equipment and monitors.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and organizational skills with a commitment to learning and professional growth in critical care.
Core Competencies
  • Critical care nursing assessment and monitoring for unstable and complex patients.
  • Basic ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring in collaboration with the ICU team.
  • Safe medication administration, IV therapy, and early titration of ordered drips within competency and protocol.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and patient/family advocacy in high-stress situations.
  • Time management, prioritization, and adaptability in a fast-paced ICU environment.
