GeneralSummary:
Nursing staff shall help provide a healthy and safe atmosphere in which to promote learning in accordance with district policies and procedures. This department shall abide by all state, federal, and district policies and procedures and constantly be aware of programs or action that might need to be implemented for the environment protection of the student and staff. The nurse identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.
Essential Functions:- Assists school health committee and administrators in developing school health program.
- Participates in work of health curriculum committee.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing, and scoliosis screening.
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
- Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and provides medically prescribed services.
- Maintains security of school health supplies and records.
- Implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and parent communications.
- Meets applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
- Certification or Licensure - Licensed from the State of Missouri to practice as an RN. Experience as a school nurse is preferred.
- Other requirements - Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education. Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills. Computer knowledge and assistive technology.
