Maintenance and Grounds Technician – State of Missouri

Take part in the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction (OA-FMDC) supporting the Operations Team. Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
  • Perform manual labor in connection with the receiving, handling, transportation and storage of building materials, furniture, equipment, supplies and other similar items.
  • Perform heavy lifting, manual labor, and operating machinery and heavy equipment per project needs.
  • Complete a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of state buildings, facilities vehicles, and equipment.
  • Maintain grounds for buildings overseen through horticultural care, miscellaneous debris and trash disposal, snow removal and salt application.
  • Assist in cleaning of parking lots and patching and painting asphalt.
  • Perform light electrical, plumbing, drywall repairs, and painting.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facilities, equipment and associated systems according to work orders or verbal instructions.
  • Execute assignments in the form of work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Operate under general supervision; receive and act upon direction, guidance, and feedback on performance for continuous improvement.
  • Answer emergency calls and occasionally travel to other facilities to provide coverage and assistance.
  • Provide coverage at state facilities after hours and/or for emergency purposes (i.e., severe weather, snow removal, water leaks, fire, and more) to ensure facilities and grounds are properly maintained and cleared for team members and the public to conduct state business.
  • Carry a state‑issued cell phone during the work shift and bring the work cell phone home after the shift ends; respond promptly to urgent texts, calls, voicemails, chat messages, and emails while off shift. Having the state‑issued cell phone on does not mean you are on call after the shift ends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate, collaborate and lead with integrity in a manner that inspires trust and builds positive rapport with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
  • Have prior experience and general knowledge of light trades work and general maintenance and repairs.
  • Understand and carry out time‑sensitive instructions independently or as part of a team.
  • Work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Operate gas‑ and hand‑powered lawn maintenance tools and equipment such as mowing machinery, tractors, and other motorized equipment.
  • Maintain excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
  • Be able to properly lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Maintain a safety‑first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions (OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred; FMDC can provide if needed).
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license from Missouri or an adjacent state if residing outside Missouri.
Physical Demands
  • This position is physically demanding. Examples of job duties may include prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, driving, climbing ladders, and the ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather, and working on uneven or elevated surfaces.
