SUMMARY
The Evidence Technician works under the general supervision of the Office of Professional Standards and Training Sergeant. While performing duties related to evidence, they are responsible for completing routine clerical work including but not limited to entering data related to evidence collection, processing evidence for storage or shipment, and maintaining the evidence room inventory. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and department policies.

Have the formal educational equivalent of a high school diploma, plus twelve to eighteen months of training in business office practices, including inventory maintenance, or a related field.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Chief of Police.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in the English language. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in a variety of forms: oral and written, to include graphic representations: diagrams, schedules, etc.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, TRAININGTrained in Property and Evidence Management for Law Enforcement through the International Association for Property and Evidence, Inc, or the equivalent; or capable of gaining certification within one (1) year of hire.
