The Maternal Child Health RN is responsible and accountable to a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to the patients via therapeutic use of the nursing process, in collaboration and integration with other health care team members. S/he demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under his/her care, applying principles of growth and development over the life span.
S/he assesses and interprets patient data needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. S/he will triage patients and complete a medical screening exam on every woman and fetus to prioritize emergent or urgent care requirements. S/he functions in the role of a primary RN in the following areas:
Maternal Child Health:
Labor & Delivery, Newborn Nursery, Level II Nursery, and Mother
- Baby and GYN patients.
- The Registered Nurse collects health data and analyzes assessment findings.
- Develops and documents plans of care based on assessment data; plans are validated with the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
- Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient and documents measurable goals.
- Develops an individualized care plan and implements interventions to attain outcomes.
- Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes and revises diagnoses, outcomes, and the care plan as needed.
- Ensures quality of care through ongoing evaluation and collaboration with the health care team.
- Communicates with the patient, significant others, GRMC personnel, and health care providers regarding patient care and nursing roles.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and acts as a patient advocate; delivers non-judgmental and nondiscriminatory care respecting patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Current New Mexico or Multi-State Licensure
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA) within 3 months from hire date
- NRP within 3 months from hire date
- Fetal Monitoring certification (NICHD) within 6 months from hire date
- STABLE within 6 months from hire date
- ALSO certification preferred
