Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the employee will be required to perform general maintenance and repairs at all County owned and maintained properties.

Responsibilities- Must know the various maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in custodial or general maintenance work.
- Proper methods of performing minor plumbing repairs; paint preparation and application.
- Must demonstrate safe lifting and carrying practices; safe handling and storage practices for a variety of maintenance tools and supplies, equipment, and machines.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate both orally and written, follow instructions and work independently.
- Operate a variety of general tools and equipment related to building and repairing.
- Must be able to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with the public, coworkers, and subordinates.
- Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material. Able to perform mathematical calculations.
- Diagnose and resolve problems.
- Responsible for knowing and abiding by all department and County policies and procedures.
- Must be willing to work after hours and weekends if necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general maintenance and/or plumbing
- Must have a valid/unrestricted New Mexico driver’s license and possess a good driving record.
- Successful candidates will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition or that equipment is removed from service.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain facility and maintenance records for OSHA, Department of Health (DOH), and annual equipment inspections.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
- Successful completion of interview by County representative(s) who will measure traits that are significant or necessary to perform the job, and demonstrate the applicant’s ability to relate ideas and answer questions relative to the job.
- Must successfully complete a conditional post-offer of employment physical examination.
- Subject to and must pass a post-offer of employment Drug & Alcohol Analysis Test.
- Following a conditional offer of employment, successfully complete background investigation, which may include, but is not limited to drug & alcohol screen, criminal record search, driving record screening, reference check, and employment verification.
- Subject to and must satisfactorily complete a post-offer of employment background investigation.
- Must not have any felony convictions directly related to the position.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit, walk, and stand; have manual and finger dexterity, and stoop.
- The employee is occasionally required to crawl, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull and carry.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the assistance of appropriate equipment or another person.
- Essential duties are performed indoors the majority of the time under normal controlled temperature conditions.
- Work surface is even, carpeted, tiled, and/or a concrete floor.
- Essential duties performed outdoors subject to climate conditions. Outside conditions may consist of uneven terrain, landscaped, and parking areas.
- May be exposed to precarious situations, such as risk for electrical shock in working with electrical repairs; fumes airborne particles; potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals; insects and extreme temperatures.
