Join Montgomery County Public Schools as a School Secretary I at Wheaton High School. Under general supervision, perform general office work in a school, including skilled operation of office equipment, standard office procedures, and responsible contacts with students, parents, and others.

Responsibilities include:

maintaining and reporting attendance, typing reports, answering phones and taking messages, photocopying, assembling materials, and maintaining files. These tasks require prior office clerical experience and the ability to acquire word processing skills. Fully experienced employees use initiative and independent judgment to ensure assigned tasks and activities are completed.

Physical demands: the position may require sustained operation of keyboard devices.

Job Specific Information

Wage range: $22.68 - $31.83 per hour, based on years of service.

Benefits available. Spanish speaker preferred. Hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
  • Knowledge and usage of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Education, Training, Experience

High school diploma or GED required. One year of experience in responsible clerical and secretarial work in a busy office environment. Other combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
