Teacher, Special Education – Galway Elementary School – Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

Summary
:
Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and collaborates with the general education teacher. The teacher monitors and evaluates outcomes, assists in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and supports behavioral interventions.

Responsibilities

• Direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
• Assist in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
• Support behavioral interventions and apply nonviolent crisis interventions.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside instructional day per Montgomery County agreement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (or related field) from an accredited institution.
• Maryland State Department of Education certification (Standard Professional Certification I in Special Education).
• Two years teaching experience at level appropriate to assignment (elementary or secondary).
• Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, assessment, ESSA, IDEA, and state/federal policies.
• Ability to adapt instructional programs and materials and provide instructional support.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with students, teachers, parents/guardians.
• Completion of specific courses in behavioral management (nonviolent crisis interventions) as required by MCPS.

Salary Range
: $64,591 – $131,472 (based on education and experience).

Schedule
:
Full-time, Day Job, 10 working months, 1.0 FTE.
