Summary Description

Under direction of the principal and special education supervisor, provides instructional support to students with disabilities and general classroom teachers who are served through the following programs:
Hearing and Vision, Autism, Emotional Disabilities (ED), Intellectual Disabilities (), Speech and Language (SL), Physical Disabilities (PD), Learning for Independence (LFI), and the School Community-based (SCB) Program. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Physical Demands:
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements:
Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.

Job Specific Information

Join our dynamic 4.5 member Resource/Home School Model Team. Knowledge of co-teaching, IEP development, and conducting formal educational assessments is a plus. The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience.

Responsibilities and Requirements

Thorough knowledge of the specific disability served, the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) K–8 curriculum, MCPS special education program, IEPs, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best practices in instruction, research-based reading instruction, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004), and state and federal policies and procedures related to special education. Ability to work well with students with disabilities, teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians of students with disabilities.

Ability to appropriately adapt instructional programs and materials. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to apply the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).

Education, Training, and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in special education with coursework focusing on students served in special education programs:
Hearing and Vision, Autism, ED, SL, PD, LFI, or SCB Program. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Certificate/License:
Meet Maryland State Department of Education requirements for a Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in Special Education.
