Summary:

Under direction, provides a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist students in academic achievement, career/educational decision making, and personal and social development. Acts as a consultant to school staff, parents, and community members.

• Provide guidance and counseling services to students in grades 3-5 to support academic achievement, career/educational decisions, and personal and social development.
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, and community members to support student success.

• Schedule

  Part-time — Monday 8:30am-4:00pm;
  Thursday 8:30am-12:00pm;
  Friday 8:30am-4:00pm

• Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies.
• Knowledge of growth and development stages of children.
• Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.
• Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for large and small groups.
• Strong human relations skills to establish good relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling.
• Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred.
• Certificate/license:
  Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
