Adventist Health Care’s White Oak Medical Center is hiring a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for our Emergency Department in Silver Spring, MD. Qualified candidates will be eligible for up to a $10,000 sign‑on bonus.
Adventist Health Care seeks to hire an experienced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for our Emergency Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.
Responsibilities- Evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of the patient’s medications
- Follow the patient’s progress to determine the effects of the patient’s medications on his or her health
- Consult with the patient’s physicians and other health care providers in selecting the medication therapy that best meets the patient’s needs and contributes effectively to the overall therapy goals
- Review and verify physician orders for appropriateness
- Participate in patient care rounds
- Provide counsel and education to patients about their medications
- Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and students
- Educate pharmacists, nurses and physicians
- Participate in hospital committees
- Attend Pharmacy Staff monthly meetings and weekly huddles
- Participate in emergency codes (ACLS and PALs trained)
- Oversee medication history pharmacy technicians
- Required:
Graduation from an ACPE accredited pharmacy school, with Pharm
D degree - Required:
ASHP accredited PGY2 Residency, or PGY1 residency with minimum of 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience in area of specialty; or minimum of 5 years of hospital experience in the specialized area - Required:
Registered Pharmacist with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy (or eligible) - Preferred (required within one year of employment):
Board Certification in area of specialty - Preferred: ACLS and PALs Certification
- Preferred:
Member of American Society of Health‑system Pharmacists (ASHP), and/or Maryland Society of Health‑system Pharmacists (MSHP), or other relevant professional organization - Preferred:
Prior experience precepting students and residents
