Description: This position supports the National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI). Located in Silver Spring, MD, the office is designed to manage the execution of acquisition and development programs meeting the needs for current and future NWS operations. Some of the programs managed include:
Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), product improvement project for observing systems (e.g., ASOS, Automated Surface Observing System and NEXRAD), Nex Gen, Weather Radio Improvement Project (WRIP), Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program (HFIP) and Regional Climate Reference Network (RCRN) to access science and technology options, prepare solutions and development plans to meet service requirements. This position oversees the design, development and maintenance of various websites supporting OSTI and its many stakeholders, including the Weather Modeling community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform website design and creation. Plan, design, develop, test, edit, maintain, and document the look and flow of websites.
• Interview clients to help them clarify their goals for establishing a website.
• Design or supervise design of digitized images, banners, bullets, charts, image maps and other graphics to enhance appearance of site.
• Requires knowledge of programming techniques and computer internet systems.
• Work under general supervision; report to IBSS Program Manager.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of web development.

Required Skills / Education / Certifications & Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree
• 5-7 years of experience in web development
• Possess programming skills
• Linux environment
• Perl, Shell Scripting
• MySQL or Maria
  
  DB databases
• Word Press experience
• Well versed in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and have a general understanding of how Content Management Systems work
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
