Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) Internships and Fellowships provide paid civilian research opportunities for high school through postdoctoral individuals in U.S. Army Research Labs and Centers. Projects focus on the most current and cutting-edge priorities of the Department of Defense.
AEOP is recruiting graduate student and postdoctoral researchers for Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). WRAIR has two main centers – the Center for Infectious Disease Research and the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience. WRAR’s mission:
To discover, design, develop, and deliver globally impactful solutions for military-relevant infectious diseases, brain health, and performance optimization through innovative research. Visit Army Home (health.mil) for more information on the research done at WRAIR.
Graduate student and postdoctoral fellows wanted for the following project:
The participant will assist with biomechanical and biological mechanisms of blast injury. The participant will assist with behavioral assessments - design, development, and implementation of the application of biological processes pre/post blast insults. Under the guidance of a mentor, the individual would be involved with the mission of the Blast Induced Neurotrauma (BINT) Branch. The BINT branch has state-of- the-art equipment for blast exposure (e.g. advanced blast simulators), for functional assessments (e.g. Electroencephalogram (EEG) for brain, auditory brainstem response (A )/distortion-product otoacoustic emission for ear, electroretinography for eye, whole-body plethysmography - cardiopulmonary) and for behavioral assessments (e.g
learning and memory, anxiety, activity, motor and coordination tests), which participants will have an opportunity to learn.
Candidate Requirements: U.S. citizen. Specific training or experience with rodent or large animal models is a valuable asset. Degree in animal and or neurosciences, physiology, biological, molecular biology, proteomics, immunohistology. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Neuroscience background and or animal handling experience preferred.
