Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician.
Job SummaryPerforms efficient and meticulous decontamination/sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, inspecting and assembling surgical instruments, equipment, trays and packs according to prescribed protocols and industry standards for aseptic technique. Incumbents rotate assignments among decontamination/sterilization processing, surgical tray assembly, supply and distribution functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Tray assembly
- Assisting in record‑keeping and monitoring equipment operations
- Maintaining department inventory
- Identifying and reporting supply, equipment and procedure problems
- Dispensing equipment and supplies
Also accountable for safety awareness, compliance with facility safety policies, maintaining knowledge of aseptic techniques, attending training in new sterilization practices, and remaining current on microbiology and therapeutic practices.
Essential Duties- Collects and decontaminates reusable equipment and supplies with associated storage units following department, manufacturer and OSHA standards.
- Assembles instruments, complex instrument sets and kits according to SOP and surgical case count sheets.
- Sterilizes equipment using agents such as steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, ethylene oxide and glutaraldehyde.
- Performs periodic tests on autoclave effectiveness and maintains accurate sterilization records.
- Maintains supply area and inventory levels.
- Performs related duties as required.
Graduation from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Course (preferred) and one year of related work experience that demonstrates required job knowledge, skills and abilities, preferably in an operating room, acute care hospital or central services department.
License & Certification- Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) at hire or within six months of hire.
- Current certification as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPST) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing.

Pay Range$23.35 - $35.40 per hour
