Position: FIELD SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

FIELD SUPPORT TECHNICIAN – Navy Exchange Service Command

Position overview:

The Field Support Technician is responsible for design, installation, troubleshooting, asset management, configuration, and support of all computerized information systems for assigned Navy Exchange activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides IT services and support to Navy Exchanges, Navy Lodges, NGIS, NEX Distribution Centers/warehouses, and district offices in the region and other activities outside the region as assigned.
  • Technical and logistical support; user services, and maintenance of telecommunication, network, Point of Sale, RF, and Desktop computing equipment, as well as dumb terminals, printers/multifunction devices and other related peripheral equipment.
  • Performs capacity planning and analysis for new and currently installed networks.
  • Installs and modifies network hardware and software as required.
  • Installs and modifies desktop computing hardware and software as required.
  • Implements new networks from design through post‑installation stages including cable plants, installation, and testing.
  • Documents and maintains asset management of networks and all IT equipment in the region.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair of down or malfunctioning networks and equipment.
  • Assists in ongoing optimization of networks and desktop computing systems in the region.
  • Assists in minor computer operations maintenance and troubleshooting for Distribution Center servers, and provides support for Distribution Center conveyor equipment.
  • Acts as Code I point of contact in the field for store, hospitality, and distribution center management.
  • Provides oral and written reports to regional lead technician and Field Support Supervisor.
  • Takes technical and operational direction from NEXCOM Field Support Supervisor, and Regional Lead Technician.
  • Ensures/implements rigorous application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in delivery of systems, applications, and/or services (Hardware & Software).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
  • Three years of IT technical work demonstrating ability and aptitude for networking, LAN systems, Point of Sale Systems, RF communications/networking, Desktop/Laptop support, printer repair, and management information systems.
  • 1 year of related academic study above high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4‑year bachelor’s degree in business/information system discipline for 3 years of general experience.
  • Two years of progressive experience in at least one of the following: operating system support (Unix, Windows, Linux, etc.), database (Oracle, SQL Server, Access, etc.), Point of Sale, electronic messaging, desktop/laptop, printers, applications (retail, financial, distribution, HR), wide area networking (design, implementation, troubleshooting), RF networking, LAN support.
Certification, Security Clearance, and Compliance
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • IAT1 jobs:
    Designated IT 2 (Non‑critical Sensitive) per SECNAV M 5510.30; requires favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI).
  • Must comply with the Department of the Navy Cyber Information Technology / Cybersecurity Workforce (Cyber IT/CSWF) program and earn/maintain appropriate credentials per the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix.
  • Participate annually in 20 hours of continuous learning (CL) activities, documented in a current Individual Development Plan (IDP) signed by employee and supervisor.
  • Maintain required cybersecurity credentials, certifications, or training as specified in SECNAV M 5239.2 and related Navy instructions.
