Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II NICU position that requires a WA or compact RN license and competency in both neonatal intensive care and couplet postpartum care.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a Level II NICU/Special Care Nursery within an acute care setting
  • 10-bed unit caring for neonates with low birth weight, prematurity, respiratory and hemodynamic issues, and babies recovering from serious conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Required to attend both high and low risk deliveries and transition newborns
  • Must provide postpartum couplet care and care for well newborns and maternal care
  • 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Weekend shifts required every other weekend
  • May float to Mother/Baby unit as needed
  • No on-call or standby responsibilities
  • Uses Epic for charting;
    Epic training provided during orientation
  • Experience with bubble CPAP, ventilators, high-flow oxygen equipment, and typical drips such as TPN and lipids is required
  • Scrubs are provided
  • Main responsibilities include providing specialized care for premature and medically fragile infants, postpartum mothers, and attending deliveries
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and respiratory therapy are available on-site 24/7
  • No patient care techs or nurse aids on the unit
  • Unit-specific orientation includes Epic EMR training and clinical onboarding shifts
  • Holiday coverage is required as scheduled with permanent staff
  • Friendly and supportive unit leadership provides regular feedback to travelers
  • Adaptability to unit policies and workflows is essential
  • First-time travelers are considered if all clinical requirements are met
Requirements
  • Active WA or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years Level II NICU nursing experience required; may consider 1 year with multiple prior travel assignments
  • Competency in postpartum couplet care as well as neonatal stabilization and delivery attendance
  • Experience managing respiratory support equipment including bubble CPAP, ventilators, and high flow systems
  • Experience attending and managing both high and low risk deliveries
  • Willingness and ability to accommodate department workflows and feedback
  • Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the past 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
