Sonographer role at Legacy Health

Ultrasounds and biopsies can be scary procedures for some patients. Your skill and compassion as a sonographer will help to put patients r sound judgment will be used to determine imaging technique and patient treatment. Through your expertise, you will help to fulfill Legacy’s mission of making life better for others.

Legacy Silverton Medical Center serves the heart of the Willamette Valley with a wide mix of services, many not typically available in a community hospital: CT scan (computerized tomography), nuclear medicine, echocardiography, family birth center and much more.

Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound imaging and biopsy procedures according to physician's orders, utilizing knowledge and judgment in regard to imaging technique and patient treatment.
  • Provide quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.
  • Maintain competency in Abdominal, OB/GYN, Small Parts, Biopsy, Carotid, Peripheral Venous, and Peripheral Arterial ultrasound studies in accordance with department standards and guidelines as detailed in the Ultrasound Procedure Manual.
  • Recognize the significance of structures visualized, differentiate artifacts and record scan for permanent record.
  • Operate all ultrasound imaging equipment to insure accurate and quality images.
  • Develop and present films and related patient information to physician for diagnosis.
  • Assist with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
Documentation
  • Gather complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
  • Identify patient by checking patient’s I.D., full name and medical record number according to department procedure.
  • Review patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.
  • Label images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation.
  • Log activities, gather charging information and charge exams as required.
  • Follow department and hospital procedures and policies.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance, record results and report variance from normal equipment function.
Personal & Patient Care and Safety
  • Practice universal and blood and body fluid precautions, and sterile practices according to procedures.
  • Communicate and use knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to insure appropriate and effective care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Maintain awareness of patient status and take appropriate actions to meet their needs.

  • Practice professional communications, appearance, conduct, punctuality, attendance and attitude that lead to physician, patient and co-worker respect and confidence.
  • Inform and educate patient and/or family of all needed information concerning the exam performed.
  • Use professional judgment and present a professional image of competency to customer and staff.
  • Maintain professional appearance, punctuality, flexibility, confidentiality, and guest relations.
  • Handle stressful situations in ways that promote positive outcomes.
  • Takes personal initiative to remain current in education (journals, books, in-services, seminars, etc.) and certification.
  • Participate in presenting professional information to colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of accredited (by AMA or ARDMS) school of ultrasound or equivalent experience is required.
  • Skills: Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Abdomen and OB/GYN (ARDMS AB OB).
    • If proof of registration is not received within one year of assuming the non-certified Sonographer job, the position will be vacated by the incumbent.
    • Current state license in Sonography required for all employees who perform this job in the state of Oregon.
    • BLS/CPR Certification:
      American Heart Association, Health Care provider level BLS and AED Certification required.
    • ARDMS Breast certification preferred.
    • Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification preferred for vascular clinics.
Pay Range

USD $47.74 - USD $68.28 /Hr.
