Summary

The Quality Technician II supports the Quality Engineering group through processing First Article Inspection (FAI) and Part Approval Process, selective inspection, analysis and processing of internal Nonconformance Reporting (NC) material and other administrative and logistical support duties. Represents the Quality Department in witnessing and documenting UAV flight acceptance test activity.

Position Responsibilities
  • Process inbound or outbound FAI and deliverable submissions accurately and timely, including receipt and analysis of parts, completion of associated records and logs, and communication of submission status to QEs, managers, engineers or interested parties.
  • Conduct selective inspection under the direction of the QE group, including receipt and verification of material, completion and maintenance of related documentation, and communication of inspection results to concerned parties.
  • Process internal non-conforming material, retrieving and analyzing material, interpreting findings, and managing NC processes while maintaining documentation and communicating status.
  • Provide general support of QEs including Corrective Action Request processing, product evaluation, and sorting activities under exceptional circumstances.
  • Support DCMA Source Inspection process.
  • Coordinate with Shipping and Contracts department to ensure timely delivery.
  • Create the Final Inspection documentation package including COC, TDRs, etc., and support internal/external customer inspection.
  • Represent and support QEs during internal and third‑party audits regarding essential functions and measurement systems.
  • Develop and maintain process instructions for quality‑related activities.
  • Work on assignments that are semi‑routine in nature.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of related work experience or equivalent education/training.
  • Expertise in mechanical inspection methods, including surface plate work, hand tools, and gauges.
  • Solid understanding of drawing requirements and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5).
  • Basic knowledge of FAI validation and verification process requirements.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Basic knowledge of engineering drawings and specification systems.
  • Ability to fill out flight test documentation and properly document non‑conformances.
  • Skill to perform pre‑ and post‑flight visual inspections on flight hardware and components.
  • Skill to remove and replace field‑replaceable components on aircraft and maintain daily flight test result spreadsheets.
  • Efficiency in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Required to travel to remote flying sites daily.
  • Valid California driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work overtime.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • 2‑year technical degree desired; quality system courses and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with aerospace quality management system (AS9100DD) and/or internal audit experience.
  • Ability to accurately record and manage data, records, files.
  • Analytical problem‑solving, strong organizational and time‑management skills, and effective communication.
  • Strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives.
  • Ownership of current and past work products and commitment to learning from mistakes.
  • Focus on teamwork, collaboration, and putting the team’s success above personal interests.
Physical Demands
  • Work outdoors majority of time in varying weather during flight test activity.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and move objects of varying shapes and sizes.
  • Stand, sit, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to operate computer and telephone keyboard.
Clearance Level

Aero Vironment considers multiple factors including location, role, responsibilities, work experience, education/training, and key skills.

ITAR Requirement

This position requires access to information subject to ITAR/EAR compliance. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or be approved for an export license. U.S. citizenship may be required for certain positions.
