NHUC is currently looking for a patient service representative (PSR) to join our team.
The PSR greets patients, assists with paperwork, maintains the sign‑in sheet, and ensures the overall appearance of the front office. The PSR also ensures the accuracy of the patient’s demographics, enters charges into the system, and collects co‑payments as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Recognize patient distress and take action as necessary.
- Greet patients and ensure the sign‑in process is completed. Inform patients of the approximate wait time and explain any elongated waiting periods.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility via telephone, fax, or Internet; collect co‑payments. Also correct information in patient demographics and change insurance carriers as needed.
- Answer incoming calls and schedule appointments as needed.
- Clean counters, empty trash, and maintain waiting room and front area.
- When needed, refer patients to the billing department for assistance after researching by center.
- Perform daily balancing (proofing / posting). Take deposit to bank as needed.
- Copy patient medical records and send them out when requested.
- File charts—must be able to go up/down ladder, bend/lift overhead up to 20 lbs.
- Assist in training new employees. Maintain compliance with training in Code of Conduct, timekeeping, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence, OSHA/HIPAA.
- Complete PSR career development program within first year of employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
A good candidate will bring:
- High School diploma or equivalency
- Customer service experience
- Medical terminology knowledge
- Computer skills
- Willing to work 12 hour shifts and weekends
- Willing to work at other centers as needed
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to reflect our mission, vision, and values through actions and conduct.
Previous experience working in a patient services representative position.
