The Ethel Walker School (“Walker’s”) is seeking a dedicated Junior Varsity Lacrosse Coach. The JV Coach will lead a team of approximately 20 student-athletes with a wide range of experience levels — from beginners to experienced players looking to refine their skills.
Full/Part Time: Part-Time, Seasonal
Season Dates: March 24, 2026 – May 20, 2026
Supervisor: Director of Athletics
The primary goal of the JV program is to serve as a developmental feeder system for the Varsity team. The coach is expected to implement consistent coaching principles, terminology, and systems that align with the Varsity program. The successful candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, and challenging environment where every girl improves her skills and understanding of the game.
Key Responsibilities- Practice Planning & Execution:
Create and execute effective daily practice plans that are organized, efficient, and engaging. Practices must be designed to challenge experienced players while simultaneously teaching fundamental skills to those new to the sport. - Team Management & Expectations:
Establish and uphold clear expectations for student-athletes regarding sportsmanship, effort, and commitment. This includes holding players accountable to team standards and school rules. - Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate daily attendance records and handle necessary team communications regarding schedules and logistics. - Program Alignment:
Collaborate with the Head Varsity Coach to ensure offensive/defensive systems and team culture are consistent across both levels. - Games:
Prepare the team to face a variety of opponents — including NEPSAC JV, Thirds, and junior boarding teams. Coach the team during competitive play with a focus on tactical understanding and player development. - Travel:
Assist with team supervision during travel. Travel arrangements vary; the team may travel on the same bus as Varsity for double-headers or follow a separate schedule depending on the opponent. - Compliance:
Adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by NEPSAC and The Ethel Walker School.
- Practices:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. - Games:
Wednesdays and Saturdays (typically 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM start times). - Availability:
Must be available for the duration of the season (March 24 – May 20).
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Experience
- Collegiate lacrosse playing experience is preferred.
- Prior coaching experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of girls’ lacrosse rules, safety regulations, and game strategy.
- Skills
- Ability to create structured, progression-based practice plans.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to instruct athletes with varying degrees of ability.
- Strong organizational skills for managing attendance and team logistics.
- Certifications:
Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season).
