What the role is:

At the Ministry of Transport (MOT), we spearhead developments in our air, land and sea transport sectors to advance Singapore’s economic competitiveness and Singaporeans’ quality of life. We seek dynamic, analytical and committed individuals to join our able MOT team in realising our vision of a global interconnected transport hub. If you share our vision and possess the qualities we seek, do join us!

What

you will be working on:

As an intern supporting the National Transport Academy’s (NTA) transport heritage initiative, you will help build Singapore’s first virtual transport heritage museum — a digital platform of stories, heritage trails and markers that documents our transport history and lays the groundwork for a future physical museum (the Singapore Transportarium). You will work closely with the NTA team, and where relevant, external stakeholders such as heritage institutions, archives, and community groups, taking reference from resources such as the National Heritage Board’s Roots platform.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Research and identify stories, sites, artefacts and personalities connected to Singapore’s transport history (land, sea and air), drawing on archives, oral histories, publications and stakeholder interviews.
  • Develop heritage trail concepts and content, including site write-ups, historical context and points of interest, suitable for self-guided exploration.
  • Draft engaging, accurate copy for stories, trails and heritage markers, adapting tone and length for a public, non-specialist audience.
  • Support the creation of social media content (posts, captions, short-form video concepts) to build public awareness of the virtual museum and transport heritage more broadly.
  • Assist in developing, structuring and organising content for the microsite, in consultation with the IT team, taking reference from NHB Roots and similar heritage portals.
  • Support fact-checking, sourcing of images/archival material, and proper attribution and documentation of all content produced.
  • Help liaise with internal stakeholders and, where appropriate, external contacts (transport operators, museums, community groups, veterans) to gather stories and materials.
  • Contribute ideas on how content can be presented digitally to engage a broad public audience, including younger audiences.
  • Possible on-location research work and site inspection of heritage sites.
What we are looking for:
  • Candidates pursuing a Diploma/ Degree in History, Heritage/Museum Studies, Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to source, verify and synthesise information from multiple types of sources.
  • Good copywriting and storytelling ability, with an eye for making historical content engaging and accessible.
  • A keen interest in Singapore’s history and heritage, particularly transport-related history, is highly preferred.
  • Commitment period of 3 to 6 months.
About Ministry of Transport

The Mission of Ministry of Transport is to develop Singapore's land, sea and air transport sectors so as to enhance our economic competitiveness and quality of life in a knowledge-based economy. MOT oversees the development and regulation of the following sectors:

  • Civil Aviation and Air Transport
  • Maritime and Ports
  • Land Transport

Besides providing an efficient and cost-effective transportation in Singapore, it also strives to make Singapore an international civil aviation and maritime centre for the region. The ministry sets the strategic and policy direction while operations and regulatory works are carried out by the statutory boards under its charge. There are four statutory boards which are established by Acts of Parliament: the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Public Transport Council (PTC).

The ministry also oversees the operation of the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB).
