The Firmware Engineer will develop and maintain firmware for CPO optical engines and modules. This person will own device control, monitoring, communication interfaces, and fault protection, while also supporting production test infrastructure. Working at the intersection of hardware and software, the Firmware Engineer ensures robust, scalable, and efficient firmware solutions that enable reliable system operation

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware for CPO optical engines, optical modules, and related hardware platforms.
  • Develop firmware for MCUs, DSPs, monitoring ICs, and other controllers to control and monitor lasers, TIAs, drivers, PDs, temperature sensors, power management devices, and other components.
  • Develop firmware for hardware interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, MDIO, GPIO, and related communication interfaces.
  • Develop device initialization, status monitoring, parameter configuration, fault detection, alarm, and protection functions for optical engines and CPO systems.
  • Implement monitoring and control of key operating parameters such as laser bias, modulation, temperature, and optical power, including closed-loop control and automatic adjustment.
  • Manage EEPROM, Flash, and other non-volatile memory to support product configuration, calibration data, serial numbers, and manufacturing information.
  • Develop firmware functions for temperature monitoring, power consumption monitoring, power status monitoring, and related control logic for CPO optical engines.
  • Develop interfaces between firmware, host software, test equipment, and automated test systems to support product testing, debugging, and production.
  • Participate in CPO product bring-up, debugging, failure analysis, and production introduction, and troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and system-level issues.
  • Design and maintain firmware architecture, interface protocols, source code, technical documentation, and software version management.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or above in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Communications, Automation, Microelectronics, or a related field.

3+ years of experience in embedded firmware, MCU, optical modules, optical communications equipment, or high-speed hardware product development.

Proficient in C/C++ with hands‑on MCU firmware development experience and the ability to independently design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware.

Solid understanding of ARM Cortex-M, Cortex-A, or other mainstream MCU/processor architectures, with experience in bare‑metal or RTOS development.

Strong knowledge of hardware communication interfaces and protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, MDIO, and GPIO, with the ability to debug interfaces using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools.

Solid understanding of optical modules and optical engines, including control and monitoring of lasers, TIAs, drivers, PDs, temperature sensors, EEPROMs, and related devices.

Experience with Git or other version control systems, with good software development practices and coding standards.

Proficiency in one or more firmware development and build tools such as Keil, IAR, GCC, and C Make, with strong embedded debugging skills.

Experience with Python or other scripting languages for automated testing, production testing, or firmware debugging tools is preferred.

Experience with CPO, 800G/1.6T optical modules, optical engines, DSPs, Ser Des, or data center optical communication products is preferred.
