What the role is:
The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is building digital products and services that improve the lives of Singaporeans. We believe great products start with a deep understanding of people, and we are committed to building experiences that are intuitive, accessible and useful. We are looking for a Senior UX Designer (Design Systems) to build and evolve our design system and the AI tools around it.
You will help designers and engineers build consistent, accessible products faster, and make sure AI tools produce work that follows the system. This role suits someone who is equally comfortable in Figma, in a code repository, and in a conversation with designers about how they work.
What you will be working on:
Design systemYou will design, build and maintain components, patterns and design tokens, including variants, theming and documentation. You will build accessibility into every component so products meet the Whole-of-Government Digital Service Standards, including WCAG AA. You will work with front-end engineers to keep design and code aligned, using tools such as Code Connect and Storybook.
AI toolingYou will build AI tools that help designers work faster and stay on-system, such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills and prompt templates. You will structure the design system so AI tools can read and apply it, through machine-readable documentation, tokens and component data exposed through MCP or similar methods. You will write scripts to automate design system tasks such as audits, token sync and documentation.
You will test new AI tools and share what works with the design team.
You will support the product designers and engineers who use the system, through reviews and clear guidance. You will audit products for one-off patterns and drift, and decide with the team what joins the system. You will run a contribution model so teams can propose and add components. You will track adoption and report where the system helps and where it falls short.
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in product design, UI design, design engineering or a related discipline, with 2+ years working on a design system.
- A portfolio showing design system work: components, tokens, documentation, and the effect on the teams who use them.
- Strong grasp of component architecture, design tokens, variants and theming in Figma.
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG AA, and how to build them into components.
- Experience building AI tools for design work, such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills or prompt templates.
- Experience making design system content usable by AI tools, such as structured documentation or MCP servers.
- Ability to write scripts with the Figma API, JavaScript or similar to automate design tasks.
- Comfortable working in Git Hub with engineers.
- Clear writing for documentation and guidelines.
- You have contributed component code through pull requests.
- You have worked with token pipelines, Code Connect or Storybook.
- You have supported several products on one design system.
- You have helped a design team adopt AI tools.
- You are curious, practical and generous with your knowledge.
