SUMMARY
:
The EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations under local, state, and federal agencies. This position emphasizes environmental programs such as stormwater management, air permitting, SPCC, hazardous materials, and EPA compliance, while supporting occupational safety initiatives. The EHS Specialist will work closely with management to maintain regulatory compliance and implement best practices for environmental stewardship and worker safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Environmental Responsibilities (Primary Focus)
  • Assist in the management of environmental compliance programs including stormwater, air emissions, wastewater, and SPCC plans.
  • Maintain and submit required reports to EPA, state agencies, and local authorities.
  • Oversee hazardous waste management, including proper storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with RCRA.
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections to ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) and sustainability initiatives.
  • Coordinate sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping for environmental programs.
  • Respond to environmental incidents and lead root cause investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with Title V air permits, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) requirements.
  • Be a participant in the facility’s Haz Mat team.
Safety Responsibilities (Support Role)
  • Assist with OSHA compliance programs and participate in safety audits.
  • Support emergency response planning, including Haz Mat team participation.
  • Provide training on environmental and safety topics to employees and management.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Other Responsibilities (Support Role)
  • Maintain documentation, training records, KPIs, and database updates.
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Interface with plant personnel, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Safety, or related field is preferred. Preferred experience includes 3–5 years in environmental compliance within manufacturing or food processing; knowledge of EPA, RCRA, SPCC, OSHA, and air permitting regulations.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to think and communicate in a fast-paced environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
:
Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as applications, training materials and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:
Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
