Job Summary
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist is responsible for executing key strategic business projects related to plant operations, sales analysis, and other assigned areas. This role requires expertise in data management and business intelligence, with a focus on margin maximization. The Specialist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and departments depending on project scope.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Understand product specifications and assess how changes affect value and yield.
- Evaluate data to optimize profitability from available raw materials.
- Identify opportunities through variance reporting on daily/weekly trends, prioritizing material issues, and recommending solutions.
- Develop lists of key opportunities to improve efficiency, cost savings, or both.
- Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and alternatives addressing existing and potential challenges.
- Monitor standard costing processes and report variances from actual results.
- Support project teams by assisting with planning, data collection, and report generation.
Qualifications
- Strong business communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Solid understanding of reporting systems; ERP system experience preferred.
- Ability to analyze statistical data and product specifications to establish quality and reliability standards.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
- Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing tasks.
- Knowledge of pricing, costing, and margin analysis.
- Ability to evaluate product and carcass yields, with an understanding of key differences and opportunities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; or a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience (meat industry experience a plus).
Communication Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze business publications, technical documents, and regulations.
- Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and delivering presentations.
- Strong influencing and persuasion abilities.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply mathematical principles to practical business situations.
- Proficiency in advanced statistics and statistical analysis for data and process control.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong skills in interpreting technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written, or verbal formats.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively while applying best practices in project structure, lifecycle, and implementation.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft products.
- Understanding of operational metrics and reporting.
- Strong change management abilities.
- Valid driver’s license required for business travel.
Physical Demands
- Frequent movement throughout the facility required.
- Ability to sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, speak, and hear.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Ability to work effectively in a production environment with variable temperatures, noise levels, and climate extremes.
- Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods and sit at a computer for long durations.
