Responsibilities Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
  • Provide Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
  • Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips and notify the supervisor of any issues.
  • Verify safety equipment availability and report problems.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Properly secure detainees during transport and ensure all documentation is complete.
  • Follow safety laws, regulations, and policies during transport.
  • Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
  • Perform vehicle servicing and pickups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience handling prisoners or in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
  • 80 hours of verified driver’s training.
  • State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
  • Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Pass company and DOT drug tests.
  • Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
  • Work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period, be alert, mature, flexible, and able to command respect.
  • Proficiency with computers and software used by the department.
  • May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate.
