High School Social Studies Teacher – Applicant Pool 2026-27
Sioux Falls School District is a widely recognized district serving over 24,000 students. We are inviting candidates to express interest in the High School Social Studies Teacher applicant pool for the 2026-27 school year.
Essential Functions & Duties- Plan and prepare instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals.
- Provide instruction to students, implementing district curriculum.
- Communicate clear learning goals and advance student understanding.
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students and address various learning styles.
- Sequence content at an appropriate pace, use appropriate questioning to promote understanding.
- Require students to summarize information in written and/or verbal form.
- Conduct ongoing assessments for learning and provide an effective classroom environment.
- Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures, enforce rules consistently.
- Participate in professional growth, demonstrate professionalism and communicate effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education Level: Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the teaching assignment areas.
- Certification:
Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate with endorsements in the assigned content area. - Experience Desired:
Successful student teaching. - Physical Requirements:
Hand-eye coordination; intermittent speaking, standing, walking, writing; frequent carrying, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. - Other Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; human relations, leadership, conflict management; knowledge of teaching techniques that meet diverse student needs; demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance learning.
South Dakota Codified Law 13-42-71 requires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Candidates must provide a recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment.
Compensation & BenefitsStarting at $52,821 to $59,485 per year, based on experience.
Hours & FTE:
Monday through Friday, 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months.
Benefits available for positions 20 hours per week or more.
Post-Offer Criminal Background Check required.
