A Brief OverviewResponsible for leading and overseeing the organization's patient safety program and ensuring compliance with all applicable clinical regulations and accreditation standards. Serves as the subject matter expert for safety practices, clinical risk mitigation, and regulatory readiness. Works collaboratively with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to promote a culture of safety, high reliability, and regulatory excellence. This position is the primary liaison between the Avera Central Quality Office, Regional Quality Leaders, Information Technology, and Executive Officers across the Avera System.
The role provides strategic and tactical decision support to safety and regulatory stakeholders at all levels of the organization and operates across the continuum of care, interfacing from front‑line care providers to executive C‑Suite.
- Acts as a proactive organization consultant, educator and change agent, applying principles of system design and quality improvement to drive practice transformation. Demonstrates exceptional communication skills and effectively engages stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Is the subject matter expert of regulatory/accreditation and can interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to key stakeholders.
- Leads efforts to close gaps in compliance and regulatory best practices to ensure organizational readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys.
- Directs and develops patient safety strategies spanning all care settings across the Avera system.
- Proficient user of the EMR, understanding the role of clinical data and documentation in meeting regulatory requirements and patient safety practices.
- Works as part of a project team in a matrix, project‑oriented environment.
- Follows the quality processes, frameworks and practices and participates as a subject matter expert.

- Registered Nurse (RN) – Board of Nursing, an active license in the state of practice upon hire.
- Working knowledge of TJC and CMS Specification Manuals.
- Operational experience in clinical process improvement, quality assurance, compliance & reporting.
- Understanding of basic business & clinical intelligence concepts & practices and their use in clinical quality performance management.
