Senior Software Engineer, Backend (AI Agents)

Join our AI Agents engineering team within the Servicing Engineering organization to help orchestrate conversational first‑point contact for customers, working closely with an omnichannel AI agent vendor.
What You’ll Do
- Own and deliver quarterly goals, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open‑ended problems and ensuring delivery support.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on risk‑aware decisions.
- Proactively identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, or business issues.
- Maintain operational and availability standards for team artifacts, create & monitor metrics, and support on‑call “keep the lights on” efforts.
- Drive a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and sharing best practices through writing and talks.
- Mentor teammates, providing feedback and guidance while leading by example.
What We Look For
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience shipping web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
- Ability to define a technical plan for a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design; write high‑quality, clear code.
- Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base and building supporting tools and practices.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude toward growth and feedback.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Pay & Equity
Pay Grade: N
Equity Grade: 8
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $190,000 – $240,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $169,000 – $219,000
Affirm is a remote‑first company. Most roles are remote; occasional office work may be required.
