Residential Professional​/DOE Mt Edgecumbe HS - Sitka, AK

NANA Management Services (NMS) is seeking a dedicated and caring individual to serve as Residential Life Professional to support Mount Edgecumbe High School. This role is crucial in fostering a supportive, safe, and culturally enriching living and learning environment for students from diverse communities across Alaska. The Residential Life Professional will serve as a mentor, advisor, and positive role model, contributing to the holistic development and well-being of our students within the residential setting.

This position requires a deep understanding of and respect for Alaska Native cultures, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to the success of our unique student body. This position is an employee of NANA Management Services and is stationed at Mount Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska.

• Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted adult for resident students, offering guidance on academic, social, emotional, and cultural matters. Offer mentorship and support that is culturally sensitive and responsive to individual student needs. Connect students with relevant school and community resources.
• Provide well-rounded programming opportunities for all residential students and manage the daily schedule of student activities, resource development, and transportation needs.
• Ensure the academic success of all students by working closely as a liaison with the academic staff and residential staff.
• Provide outdoor programming opportunities for all students and focus on leadership development.
• Act as a role model and assist students in learning how to make good decisions, especially focusing on at-risk students and helping them reverse destructive behaviors.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all resident students by enforcing school policies, responding to concerns, and addressing emergencies according to protocols. Maintain a visible and supportive presence in residential halls.
• Maintain open and effective communication with students' families and communities, respecting cultural protocols and fostering strong partnerships to support student success.
• Supervise and mentor Resident Advisors within the residential halls, providing guidance and support.
• Perform other duties as assigned and qualified for.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Strong desire to engage high school students in meaningful, fun, social, and team-building activities such as outdoor recreation, leadership development, arts, and culturally relevant programming.
• 1 year of experience in residential life, recreation, teaching, athletic coaching, or youth work is desirable; training and mentorship may be provided for the right candidate. Relevant experience will be considered.
• Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain prior to start date.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite:
  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Indoors and outdoors, frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Moderate to loud.

Environment varies based on assigned facility.

Physical requirements:

Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs., and frequently sit, stand, walk, use hands, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, see, taste, smell, and carry/lift weight.
