Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) HOT JOB at South East Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC).

This position is based in the Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department with a primary focus on providing Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) treatments. PTAs provide services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist and adhere to applicable hospital standards, licensure, regulatory, and professional guidelines.
The PTA cannot practice physical therapy without initiation, supervision, and termination by a licensed physical therapist. A PTA’s responsibilities do not include testing or evaluation.

Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities- Provides therapy treatments from the physical therapist plan of care with focus on PT goals; implements PTA services to patients. Reviews clinical records and case histories. Attends care conferences and rounds; maintains contact with referring providers, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals to review patient status and needs within the health care team concept. Collaborates to ensure appropriate medical equipment is arranged and care plan is established prior to discharge.
Documents patient encounter findings and treatments, including diagnoses, treatment plan, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with hospital policies. Delivers services in a timely manner after referral. Serves both in-patient and out-patient populations in various settings as assigned.
- Entry-level qualifying Physical Therapy Assistant associate degree from a CAPTE accredited program.
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Acute care hospital and clinical out-patient experience preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal physiology including active/passive range of motion, gait, strength, biomechanics, and mental cognition to adhere to the PTA plan of care.
- Knowledge of treatment planning and treatments for patients with various diagnoses and functional deficits.
- Knowledge of regulations and practice standards related to physical therapy including billing mechanisms (Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party payers) for patient equipment and services.
- Ability to utilize and properly fit adaptive devices (splints, braces, orthoses, seating equipment, durable medical equipment, ADL assistive devices).
- Clear communication in written and spoken form; document daily progress notes and reports; train clinical and non-clinical staff; consult with management and outside agencies; professional networking; public speaking.
- Proficiency with information technology and multiple software applications; use of laptops, tablets, and imaging devices.
- Effective communication with patients, families, teachers, community members, and non-PT professionals; translate complex PT services into understandable terms.
- Physical ability to deliver treatment techniques and assist patient mobility while maintaining safety for patients and staff.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in patient care, safety, and workplace relations.
