Central Sterilization Lead - Dental
South East Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) – Non‑profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska.
Pay Range$27.81 - $38.62
Job SummaryThe Dental Central Sterilization Lead oversees and manages comprehensive sterilization processes across multiple dental locations within the consortium, ensuring meticulous record‑keeping, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with the Director of Sterile Processes to stay up to date on industry developments.
- Collaborate with procurement to identify and submit new sterilization stock items and maintain inventory control.
- Oversee and maintain meticulous collection and auditing of sterilization records across consortium locations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Establish routine scheduling for sterilization processes and personnel meetings to maintain compliance with standards.
- Ensure consistent operational standards across diverse locations in line with regulatory requirements.
- Possess broad knowledge of instrumentation equipment, techniques, and reprocessing skills.
- Assist in training and certifying team members on sterilization processes, new products, procedures, and equipment.
- Directly responsible for collecting, decontaminating, cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing critical and semi‑critical instruments.
- Disinfect equipment that cannot be sterilized.
- Ensure instruments are thoroughly disassembled to remove debris, surgical soil, and bioburdens before sterilization or high‑level disinfection.
- Communicate with providers and staff to problem‑solve instrument shortages and offer alternatives.
- Verify equipment functionality, request maintenance, repair, or replacement, and remove defective equipment.
- Demonstrate competency in equipment maintenance through education and continuing education.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Travel up to 25% via jet, small aircraft, or boat.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred associate degree in a health‑related or business field.
- Certification by HSPA as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or by CBSPD as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
- Preferred HSPA Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or CBSPD certified Supervisor.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years.
- At least 2 years of experience in sterile processing.
- Preferred 1–2 years of supervisory experience in sterile processing.
- Accreditation requirements for sterilization processes.
- Epidemiology and infectious disease.
- Project performance improvement methodology.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Accurate, precise, and timely data entry and reporting.
- Ownership of projects.
- Advanced hand‑and‑eye coordination skills.
- Organizational skills at a working level.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office and database applications.
- Train and teach processes to learners with diverse abilities.
- Lead teams in process change and implementation.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Work in a team environment and/or independently as necessary.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and communicate clearly with staff and leadership.
