Pay Range

$36.46 - $51.29

This position provides a variety of treatment services including individual counseling support to any and all patients from birth to elder as part of the social services department. It involves intake/diagnostic evaluations, case evaluations, crisis intervention, liaison work with other agencies, participation in the hospital interdisciplinary treatment team, direct brief inpatient and outpatient counseling, and record maintenance in compliance with insurance regulations and SEARHC policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screen, assess, diagnose, and provide treatment planning for individual clients ranging from birth to elderly and their families.
  • Facilitate or co–facilitate patient care conferences and provide discharge planning.
  • Coordinate care, client advocacy, and skill development as needed; provide brief clinical support and referrals based on clinical evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and paraprofessional team to achieve patient treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis support to patients in the emergency department during work hours.
  • Learn and utilize community resources for appropriate continuum‑of‑care referrals.
  • Maintain complete and accurate case notes, statistics and reports in paper and electronic systems, meeting all requirements for state, federal, and insurance billing.
  • Assist in staff training, quality management initiatives, and billing duties as assigned.
Position Complexities
  • Provide clinically sound treatment services based on the client’s needs and treatment plans.
  • Demonstrate understanding of diagnostic evaluation methods, mental status exams, and use of DSM‑IV.
  • Respond to a range of clients’ needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches.
  • Provide appropriate crisis intervention services.
  • Maintain clinical records in timely compliance with state, federal, and agency policies.
  • Work collaboratively with community agencies on behalf of clients and SEARHC.
  • Adhere to ethical practice and the established ethics of the profession.
  • Organize time and responsibilities to meet established deadlines.
Education, License, and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed or in the process of becoming licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Valid State of Alaska driver’s license (or will be obtained within 6 months of hire).
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Clinical competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
Knowledge Of
  • Modern methods, techniques, and procedures used in individual, marriage, family, and child counseling for mental health and substance‑using clients.
  • Psychological theory and interviewing/crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ethical and legal management practices, patient legal rights, and documentation regulations specific to accreditation requirements.
Skill And Ability To
  • Perform case management using discretion, initiative, and independent judgment.
  • Observe, record, and evaluate psychiatric and substance‑using behavior; conduct screening, assessments, and treatment planning.
  • Write clear and concise reports and chart notes in accordance with professional standards.
  • Collect information through interviews, observation, or tests.
  • Encourage clients to express feelings and develop insight.
  • Guide clients in developing coping skills and strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client records.
  • Modify treatment activities or approaches as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
  • Assess risk of suicide attempts.
  • Collaborate with other staff to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Coordinate required services with community agencies.
