The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is seeking a Travel Infection Control Nurse (ICN) to join our dynamic and mission-driven team. This role focuses on the development, implementation, and oversight of infection prevention protocols across a network of healthcare facilities in Southeast Alaska.
As an ICN, you'll be the front line of defense against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), driving infection control strategy, policy compliance, and staff education—all while working in one of the most naturally beautiful locations in the U.S.
Core Responsibilities:Surveillance & Reporting:
- Monitor, collect, analyze, and report data on HAIs.
- Submit mandatory reports to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and relevant regulatory bodies.
- Maintain timely documentation for CMS, OSHA, CDC, and TJC compliance.
Infection Prevention Program:
- Maintain and enforce SEARHC’s Infection Prevention & Control Plan.
- Ensure implementation of guidelines set by APIC, CDC, FDA, and national safety standards.
- Assist with outbreak investigation and containment planning.
Education & Training:
- Conduct onboarding and annual training for staff, with ongoing education on emerging infection threats.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on infection prevention for clinical teams, patients, and community partners.
- Provide targeted education during audits, compliance reviews, or policy updates.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Co-chair the Infection Control Committee and support interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Travel between SEARHC sites to assess environments, educate staff, and ensure adherence to protocols.
- Work alongside Quality Improvement and Risk Management teams to reduce infection risk.
- Current RN license in Alaska (or compact license with AK endorsement)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Microbiology
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) – Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care or infection prevention experience
- Strong grasp of epidemiology, surveillance methods, and infection control standards
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
- Experience in long-term care infection prevention
- Familiarity with quality improvement tools and data analytics
