The registered nurse coordinates and performs a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, working independently while following provider orders, standard of care, nursing policies and procedures manuals, and hospital policies.

• Provide total nursing activities and supervise subordinates for all patients/residents during working hours, assuring safety.
• Develop and maintain good working rapport with inter‑departmental and other facility personnel to meet patient/resident needs.
• Assist in creating and maintaining nursing objectives, standards, policies, procedures, and care plans.
• Interpret policies for personnel, residents, visitors, and family members as necessary.
• Ensure each patient’s/resident’s right to fair and equitable treatment, privacy, and civil rights.
• Enforce infection control procedures and isolation techniques strictly.
• Create a warm, personal, positive environment.
• Assist in training department personnel and recommend training to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/Director of Nursing (DON).
• Complete administrative forms, reports, and submit to the CNO/DON.
• Assist in evaluating and supporting medical, social, psychological, spiritual, restorative, and rehabilitative care plans.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient/resident care information.
• Evaluate emergencies and determine appropriate measures.
• Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.
• Complete required record‑keeping forms on admission, discharge, transfer, etc.
• Ensure nurses’ notes are informative and descriptive.
• Notify physician of accidents and complete accident/incident reports.
• Maintain adequate stock levels of medications, supplies, and equipment, reporting needs to the CNO/DON or Purchasing Agent.
• Attend staff/department meetings, workshops, and seminars as approved.
• Record and report patient condition and reaction to treatments and significant incidents.
• Perform other duties as directed.

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Must possess functional sight, hearing, or suitable prosthetics.
• Must function independently, exhibit flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with patients/residents and staff.
• Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
• Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile people.
• May be required to lift or move patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc.

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or Diploma).
• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state.
• Direct hire: applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification, or to be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually thereafter.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification preferred (required for ED nurses).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years.
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and every year.

• No experience required.
• Acute care, emergency department, and/or long‑term care experience preferred.

• Nursing/medical practices and procedures.
• Laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to hospital and/or long‑term care.

• Working harmoniously with and supervising professional and non‑professional personnel.
