Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Control Systems Designer to design, develop, and document electrical control systems for industrial equipment and automation solutions. The ideal candidate will translate functional requirements into safe, reliable, and compliant control system designs, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and commissioning teams.
Key Responsibilities- Design electrical control systems, including power distribution, control panels, and field wiring
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Select appropriate electrical components (Variable speed drives, relays, breakers, etc.)
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards
- Support panel fabrication, assembly, and testing by providing clear documentation and technical guidance
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and project engineers throughout the design lifecycle
- Participate in design reviews, troubleshooting, and system validation
- Revise and maintain documentation based on feedback, testing, and field changes
- Assist with commissioning and startup activities as needed
- Experience designing electrical control systems in an industrial or automation environment
- Proficiency with electrical design tools
- Good understanding of control system architecture and industrial electrical components
- Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, P&IDs, and functional descriptions
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices and applicable codes and standards
- Experience with industrial networks (Ether Net/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
- Experience designing UL-listed or CE‑compliant control panels
- Exposure to variable speed drives
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
Office‑based design work with regular interaction with shop floor and testing areas. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.
General Salary£45k – £55k depending on experience. Overtime possible. 25 days Holiday + Bank holidays.
