Wood Machinist

We are looking for a Wood Machinist/Sawyer to join our experienced team.

Situated in Sittingbourne in Kent we are an importer and merchant supplying timber predominantly to the construction industry and other merchants.

Duties will include setting and operating moulding machinery, band saws and automatic cross cut to produce timber products from a variety of timber species.

Your main duties will include:

* Setting up and operating sawing/planning, cross cutting & profiling machinery

* Cleaning and maintaining work areas including machinery and tools to ensure safe working environments

* Working from drawings

Essential skills

* Ability to work within a team and on your own

* High attention to detail with willingness and initiative to solve problems as they arise

* Previous experience within the timber or building materials industry preferred

Desirable skills

* Understanding of timber grading

* Any experience of operating timber machinery (band saws/moulders etc)

* An understanding and capability of learning new technology as some of the machinery has an element of automation.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team and on their own. You are required to have the ability to overcome problems. The candidate should be committed, hardworking, have the willingness to learn and to develop new skills and working practices. You would also be required to have excellent attendance and punctuality levels.
